Gratitude Attitude

As I work with my clients at the Hypnosis Counseling Center, whether they need to lose a few pounds or are struggling with major life issues, I try to instill a positive attitude of gratitude. Although their concerns may seem somewhat overwhelming at times, I am inspired by their courage, willingness and ability to try to make positive changes in their lives.

I often share a wonderful story by Thich Nhat Hanh, an 88 year old Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk. Hanh, a teacher, author, poet and peace activist was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize by Dr. Martin Luther King. Hanh relates waking up every morning being grateful for a “non-toothache”. The point being, we take so much of our normal everyday blessings for granted. If you’ve ever had a toothache, you know what I mean.

I am extremely thankful for my teachers and education which allows me to share my gift and knowledge of hypnotherapy and counseling in order to help folks improve their lives. Having lost my parents at a young age due to smoking, I am grateful for my clients who put in the effort to achieve their goals in becoming non-smokers. I am blessed to having spent the last 30 years helping people overcome many of life’s obstacles and challenges.

On a personal level, first and foremost, I am grateful for air and being on the planet. Having survived a heart attack 27 years ago, I try not to take being alive for granted. That being said, I don’t smoke, I grow my own veggies, eat healthy mostly (Chocolate and Pasta do sometimes make an appearance, though) and exercise often. However, like most of us, I’m certainly not perfect. I remind myself that it’s about the journey and not the goal. I try to treat each day anew and do my best. We are like artists with a blank canvas each day and we can paint it anyway we choose.

I am eternally thankful for my teenage daughter who continues to teach me about patience, although I’m still a work in progress. I am also blessed and grateful to a wonderful woman with whom I get to share my life. Family and friends complete my circle of gratitude as they are always there for me as I try to be for them.

HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING
